    I have always wanted to have dinner here, so my fiancé and i decided to have a nice night out and give it a try. Sapphires was the worst dining experience I have ever had. Ever. We ordered Kung pao calamari. The kung pao tasted way too sweet and heavy. The breading was light and crisp, but the calamari was bland and rubbery. I ordered the mango salmon. The entrée comes with 2 sides. I had a side salad and rice pilaf. The dinner salad was the highlight of the meal. The rice was a dead ringer for a package instant rice. My salmon had no seasoning and tasted horrible. My fiancé ordered the surf and turf. Hmm... where do I start? The steak was sliced and marinated before cooking. The seasoning tasted like a cheap teriyaki and was too salty to eat. His sides were green beans that were not seasoned and a salad. The ranch is really good. On a plus side the wait staff was really nice. So nice, I didn't want to complain that I didn't like my food. The prices would have been acceptable if the food had been good and the general ambiance of the restaurant was nice. But when it comes down to it what really matters about a restaurant is the food and this place totally missed the mark. I won't be going here ever again.

    We stayed at this Doubletree for a conference, and went up to Sapphire so we didn't have to leave the hotel to eat. It was surprisingly empty. However, we loved the bartender (darn,can't remember his name). He was an identical twin and maybe 25? Anyway, we got a couple appetizers which were good. When we went up there a subsequent night, it was fairly deserted again, which I am guessing makes it hard to staff and keep things working well. I think they try, but service is slow and there's something about patronizing a restaurant that doesn't seem busy... I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, but I wouldn't not recommend it either.

    Avoid at all costs. I had the bacon wrapped scallops. Not actually wrapped in scallops. The whole plate tasted freezer burned. Ordered surf and turf for dinner. Absolutely terrible. It's a pot roast that they grill and drown in some salty sauce. Even my French fries sucked. How do you mess up French fries? They were soggy and so was my asparagus. To top it off my roll was garbage. My bill is going to be way too much for this crap.

    We visited Sapphire's Restaurant & Lounge for dinner last night for our anniversary. Arrived 6:00 p.m.ish. The restaurant is lovely. Very clean, black cloth tablecloths, white napkins. The only people in the place were at a high-top in the bar, maybe 6 of them; the hostess, who was drinking a very large gas station soda in plain view; and two servers, one in the bar, and one in the dining room. We were given our choice of bar or dining room. We chose dining room, and were told to "sit anywhere." We took a seat at a table with a gorgeous view of the capitol and downtown area, and were given a wine list and menus. We have been here before and had looked at the menu online, so we didn't take but a minute to decide what we wanted. Online it had said that appetizers were half price from 5-7 and had listed drink specials as well. When our server came to the table, I inquired if there were any specials tonight, and she said no. I asked about the half price on the appetizers, and she said, "Oh, yeah, we do have that at a certain time." When I asked about the soup of the day, she didn't know. I ordered the calamari appetizer "as my entree" and a salad. My husband ordered the meatball appetizer and a pasta dish. She later came back to let me know what the soup of the day was. Guess what the first thing out of the kitchen was? My calamari. (Took about 10 minutes.) I have to say, it was amazing. Calamari is easy to ruin. These were like...fat half rings? perfectly cooked, and so hot I had to let them cool first. The spicy remoulade was delicious! The serving size was approximately one cup, which was perfect for me. As she served them, though, she did let me know that the calamari is "not included" on the half price appetizers. ($10 for that quality and preparation of calamari still seemed very fair to me and I would definitely order it again.) Since my husband's meal was supposed to come with a salad, she said she was giving me his salad and not charging us for mine. I know she was trying to be nice after not being knowledgeable, but most diners in such an elegant setting would find that tacky... After all, we were out for a special occasion. However, since I know he wasn't that attached to his salad, I knew he wouldn't care. He was extremely pleased with his meatballs, very sausage-y; served in pairs (6 total) with dollops of red sauce and very liberally sprinkled with Parmesan. He said he would definitely order them again. He also sampled my calamari, even though he is not generally a fan, and really liked it as well. His entree was the Chicken Pancetta Pasta (Grilled chicken with broccoli, pancetta, and mushrooms in a garlic Cajun pesto sauce, atop fettuccine). He had ordered that before at lunch, so he was expecting it to be good. It was. He asked our server for some bread and received two hot bread sticks, which he was happy with. My house salad was your basic lettuce salad with craisins and sunflower seeds on top, ranch dressing on the side, served with 3 wheat crackers. It was just fine, although usually the dressing is great (I'm guessing Hidden Valley Ranch mix made with the buttermilk recipe in house?) and it was different last night (and not as good) but still edible. I would describe the service as adequate, after all, we were her only table for the entire time we were there. Our water glasses were filled, our meals were out in about 20 minutes. We will definitely go back, since this is one of the classier dining establishments in Jefferson City.

    I've now eaten at this restaurant twice since my stay at this hotel began yesterday. I had dinner last night. My expectations were low, as it is a hotel restaurant. But when I saw the view, I realized that there must be others who come to this restaurant outside of hotel guests. While the view is nice, they managed to overcome that with the food. I ordered the Steak Oscar ($30). It took nearly an hour for the food to come out, and there were probably only 8 other people in the restaurant. I chose asparagus and potato hash as my sides. The asparagus was about an inch in diameter. I can tell you, large asparagus does not translate into good asparagus. It was inedible, which is too bad because there was quite a lot of it. Not sure what the potato hash was supposed to be, but it basically tasted like bad hash browns from Waffle House. One bite is all I could take of the potatoes as well. I ordered the steak medium rare. The very center was medium rare, but I'm not sure what you'd call the rest of it. It was white in color, almost like cooked pork. The steak was edible, but odd. Had I not been starving, I probably wouldn't have eaten it either. My companions had a cobb salad, which he said was fine, but the other had the beef tenderloin medalions. Those were overcooked and tasted like bad pot roast. The service was tolerable, aside from the time it took to get the food. But we were a low-maintenance table; no alcoholic drinks to constantly refill. I went back for breakfast this morning because I was in a hurry and it was my only option. I got the breakfast buffet ($11). Eggs were bland, bacon was ok, sausage was overcooked. B&G were passable. Basically, I'd compare the quality to a breakfast buffet at Caribbean all-inclusive resort. Not great, but it will do if you're starving. Would have been a decent value at $6.00, not $11.00. I won't be having any more meals at this restaurant. Even though that means I will risk losing my parking spot in the ridiculously cramped parking garage at the hotel, I just can't see going back to Sapphire.

    Nice view, but all the other bad reviews are true. Sad experience for both breakfast, dinner, and drinks (take-out and dine-in). The morning crew were confused and wandering about. The buffet was depressing at best. The food was taken to-go from the self-service buffet, but silverware was not available at the buffet; they had to be asked for separately, like it was a nursery school cafeteria. The staff seemed too busy with some elusive business to be helpful, although there were no other guests in the whole building. A to-go-box was also needed, but I was informed that an staff member had to go retrieve and fold a box for me which took approximately five minutes; they then returned with about six plastic containers and an enormous folding box. The end result was a really bad meal and sticky shoes from walking on a dirty floor. Opt for a jimmy dean biscuit in the lobby snack shop, you will spend less and not waste as much time. As for the evening crew they were friendly folks, but it seemed the bartender had been left alone to serve our party of seven with drinks and food. The one star is for the bartender trying her best, all alone. She tried. I guess I can give the wings a slight thumbs up (1/2 star), but anything would have sufficed after a 15 hour day. They were cold, so no star. All stories about a freakish bar-top are true. I'm six feet tall, and the bar is chest high. Please redesign this whole space! There are too many strange interior design points to touch-on. I realize this is just a Doubletree Hotel, so I can't really be too surprised. Please try harder Hilton Hotels. P.S. This Hotel restaurant charged my credit card a slew of times about 2 weeks after I stayed. Very shady. Terrible management insisted I was in the wrong without displaying any facts; I meticulously keep all my receipts for work, so I knew something was wrong immediately. Had to get my bank to step in and straighten these folks out. Had to go through process of getting a new ATM card because of this place.

    Preface: THIS IS MY FAULT. Who eats at a hotel bar? I was weak. It was late. I wanted to venture out, but had no energy. I was weak. Struggling. Barely walking, actually. If I were reporting only on the wings, I'd give them 4 stars. Solid wings. But, I am not reporting only on the wings. This place is managed worse than most restaurants on earth. It's hard to hate the incompetent, but super nice, employees there. I started by hating them. In the end, I just felt like they were clueless. Upon entering I was immediately greeted, and then sat down at a table that appeared clean. it was not, so someone came over (eventually) and wiped down half the table. Really. Half the table. I waited several minutes for someone to come over and bring a menu. Then a while longer for my beer. Then a much longer period of time to order. And that only happened because I asked someone if I could place a food order (which they already knew, since they asked if I was eating). The fries were tasty, but few in number. It looks like they had half an order left and put it on an over-sized plate. They brought a ketchup bottle that was filthy. And - covered in a hairy sort of velvet material. Pretty gross. The bar is freakishly high. It's a high bar even if you're standing. Really. It would be a good prank to test customers' reactions with a hidden cam. Hmm... Anyway, the wings were very good, although the blue cheese dip was a half centimeter-deep in a little bowl. Odd. So, good wings, but everything else... You know...I blame management. Always blame management. Oh, nevermind. I blamed myself at the beginning. But management, too.

    The Sapphire Bar & Grill is located atop the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Jefferson City and offers panoramic views of the area. Nice enough. I usually don't hit hotel restaurants when I travel, but it was a long enough day and all I wanted was a martini and food and to catch the Celtics game. The lounge was not that crowded, but had its share of lobbyist douche bags who felt I had to be part of their cell phone conversations about the Governor signing their bill or last minute amendments to their legislation. Self-importance is overrated and boring. With that, I tried to focus on the menu and was quite surprised at what I saw. Portabella mushroom rogart, escargot, steak Oscar, and the list went on. Very nice. It was all a bit pricy, and I was not famished, so I settled on an appetizer of duck and chorizo quesadilla. First, they are very generous with the duck breast meat. There was at least a pound sandwiched in between four servings, lots of chorizo, pico de gallo, sour cream and grilled onions. This was a meal, and for only $10. Great food, and a great value. So if your travels take you to Jeff City, my condolences. But while there, treat yourself to a creative menu and a great view.

    We were staying at the Double Tree and decided to try Sapphire's in spite of the negative reviews. We found the restaurant wonderful. Our waitress, Emily, was phenomenal. She was extremely attentive and very quick. I had the shrimp and chicken alfredo. It was excellent. The side salad was very fresh and the bread pudding for dessert was very good. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and would try it again.

    The view of the city from the restaurant's high vantage point is excellent. Unfortunately the view is the best part and everything goes down hill from there. To start things off the bar is really tall, or maybe the stools are too short. I'm 5' 6" and, when sitting on the stool, the bar was even with my chest. This wasn't going to be a comfortable eating position so I moved to a table. There were only 5 or 6 patrons and two people working but it still took 10 minutes for someone to take my drink order. Before she brought my drink (a Sprite) I perused the menu, made my decision and closed it. It was another 5-10 minutes before someone took my order. I should've taken all of these negative things as a sign. Unfortunately I stayed long enough to try my dinner. What a mistake that was! I've had better frozen dinners. The food was horrible and had a chemical taste. Not worth finishing. Since I gave up on the food I requested my check. I informed my waitress that I was a hotel guest and wanted the 10% discount. She was unable to give it to me since only managers could and, at 8pm on a Sunday, there were nine on site. My recommendation is to save yourself some money and eat a frozen dinner.

    We decided to check out the bar, while staying in Jefferson City for the holidays. It was the night after Christmas and around 10 pm, so the bar was pretty empty. The decor was contemporary and the atmosphere was relaxing. The views were really nice and the bartender was super helpful. Sarah went out of her way to make me a drink that I would like. She made a wonderful chocolate martini and I am very picky about my chocolate martini! We would certainly stop in again if we are in town.

    Here for breakfast every time I stay at the Doubletree. Best part is the view. Food is poorly prepared and staff is more concerned about their smoke breaks that getting your order straight. Sad because it could be a great place :(

    This is probably the nicest restaurant in Jeff City. Good view from atop the Doubletree. The lamb appetizer is quite good here. The ribeye is good, but they put way too many fried onion straws on top of it. The calamari is decent (especially considering it's Missouri). I've been here a handful of times now, and have always left satisfied.

    Very nice happy hour...great views, cheap drink prices ($2.00 for a glass of wine), and free wings while I was there. I unfortunately did not want wings, I was trying to be healthy so I ordered a salad and a shrimp appetizer. Well, they did not put my order in and after waiting in the bar for about 45 minutes I reminded the waitress. My food appeared five minutes later. Slow service and definitely not enough people working there for the crowd on a Wednesday night.
